Drinking Leads to... (Chapter 1, pg 10)

They're Dancing.

     More fun with boozles!
Okay, first thing: The next two comics are definitely going to be NSFW. You have been warned.
The other thing is that this is the month of December. Unlike many pagans (I guess) Spider and I are enthusiastic participants in Christmas. You know, kinda like the Japanese, despite being Buddhist and Shinto. It's fun.
What that means to you is that from now until January, we will only be posting new comics ONCE A WEEK. I say again: ONCE A WEEK. So you're going to get a nice, shiny NSFW comic on Monday, and then there will be no new comic until the following Monday.
Almost forgot: The final score is 4-2. Bat wins.

That Rose Glow (Chapter 1 pg 9)

Pronounced "Rose-ay".  It's a pun.
Okay, so last week's score was Bat: 3 and Peregrine one and a half. Bat is pulling far ahead in the first quarter and shows no sign of letting up.
You'll notice that Peregrine's boozles are now a little heart shaped. I don't know if there is a term for that. They kind of represent a similar phenomenon to beer goggles, so I suppose "googles" would be logical, but I can't use that for obvious reasons.  Spider suggested that they be called "heart-oozles". Of course, she is the chief writer, so I don't know if it's a "suggestion" as such...

Ignorance and Annoyance (Chapter 1 pg 8)

Boozles!
     Boozles!
There is going to be a lot a drinking in the next couple of pages. See if you can keep score between the two.

Food and Mood (Chapter 2 pg 7)

Nice Tablescape!
You've probably noticed that the background colors have more to do with the characters' emotional state than observable reality. The question is: do you like it? Or do you prefer regular backgrounds? Personally, I enjoy the emotional coloring. What do you think?

All That and A Wine Snob (Chapter 1 pg 6)

He cleans up real nice!

(sigh) Sometimes, there's no pleasing some people.

NSFW! Sail Away (Chapter 1 pg 5)

Nice tattoo...
     There you go, girl nudity.

Next page, there will be no nudity at all!

Wednesday, November 12, 2014

NSFW! Smoke, Smoke Smoke that Cigarette (Chapter 1 pg 4)

That's a lot of smoke...
Our fist nudity.  We never said it was going to be girl nudity...
     That's next comic.

Nothing Better to Do (Chapter 1 pg 2)

She's really...intense.

Introducing Peregrine! Looking at this relationship from the outside has been...illuminating. We're going to spending some time with these two for a while. Hope you enjoy.
FYI: Dr. Candace Pert is the woman who first discovered the chemoreceptors responsible for addiction to heroin. Her name was left of the paper by the senior scientist on the team when it was submitted for the Nobel Prize. She had the courage to raise a fuss. Her team didn't win the prize and it looked like her career was in trouble. Fortunately, being a kick-ass neuro-scientist allowed her to raise to flourish. She founded the organization WIN (Women in Neuroscience). And continued to make meaningful contributions to the study of the brain, hormones and addiction until her death last year.
Her book "The Molecules of Emotion" is pretty good. Check it out sometime.

I: The Magician (Chapter 1 pg 1)

YAY New Chapter!
Here we are - a brand new chapter! Incidentally, panel 2 took absolutely the longest amount of time to draw, ink, and color. You can bet you will see it again.

Tree Hugger (Prologue pg 16)

Ahem...
On that note, we end the Prologue! Next week starts Chapter One: Magic I Can
     But first...
Friday is the traditional Sabbat of Samhain. Look for a little bonus.

Immodest Proposal (Prologue pg 15)

Bad Bat!

I think a lot of people figure that bisexuals would be more into threesomes than monosexuals. It's like the idea that bisexuals are more prone to infidelity - a popular misconception.
But it makes a funny punch line.
... I just realized that was a pun.

DJ Not-Gay (Prologue 14)

Really, I'm not.

Ah, the joys of ambiguous sexuality.
Of course, years later I realized that while I'm sexually attracted to women, whether or not said woman has a penis isn't particularly relevant.
Also, I believe the real reason you hear "Stairway to Heaven" on the radio so often is so the DJ can step out for a smoke.

What is Truth? (Prologue pg 13)

Cherry suckers.
I couldn't stand cherry flavored anything when I told that little white lie. Spider, bless her heart, had an entire pillow-case sized bag of the damned things. She brought me one everyday until they ran out, and would watch me put them into my mouth and eat them.
Every. Single. Day.
Now the thing is, when I ran into Spider again, I loved cherry suckers. Cherry was my favorite flavor of everything. I guess I missed her.

Missing the Point (Prologue pg 12)

The most embarrassing thing about the whole smoking/puking incident is that it actually happened, exactly as described here. I smoked for another twenty-one years after that. Fool indeed.

Fire the Canon! (Prologue pg 10)

Here it is: The last comic written by myself. From here on out, all comics are written by Spider. That's not to say I'm not involved, however, because I certainly am. Having a full-time writer allows me to concentrate on the art (incredibly time-consuming) and also helps push the boundaries of what will show up in the comic itself. I offers challenge as well as making a better story. Hope you enjoy.
2016 Update: Panel 6 in this comic is still, after nearly two years, one of my favorites!

Simmer Down! (Prologue, pg 9)

I loved drawing this one!
Fun fact, when working on this project originally, I entered into an email correspondence with OZ through most of 2008 and early 2009 (right before his cancer diagnosis). He is one of the most generous and insightful people I've ever had the pleasure of learning from. He even gave me, a Heinlein fan, copies of the letters published in Green Egg for a history of CAW that I was working on.

Of course, that was all ten years after this particular conversation took place.
Like I said before, it's called a Fool and his journey for a reason. ;)

Cream, Sugar, Awkwardness (Prologue, pg 8)

This is the first comic that is written primarily by Spider. There are only a couple left written by me (Chris/Bat) from the original draft of The Accidental Witch. From pretty much here on in, we are in new territory. But since you never read any of the original stuff, I suppose it doesn't matter...
Believe me, you should be glad you are not reading the original.

New Book Day (Prologue pg 5)

This page represents the oldest artwork that will likely be seen in the regular comic. The page was originally finished (with hand lettered narration in black and white)back in 2008, making it older than one of my children!

Hobson's Choice (Prologue pg 4)

Here we are at the end of the scene. Hope you are enjoying the comic so far, because we are certainly enjoying working on it.
By the way, you may have noticed the addition of a Patreon button to the left. No pressure.

Alabama: Hot Without Global Warming (Prologue pg 3)

Here we are. The purpose of this page, in case you've haven't guessed, is to highlight just how long a way our hero Bat has to go. The Chapter is titled A Fool and His Journey for a reason.
